[video] *** ADRIFT *** - a 7 minute epic!

I recently built this 7 minute video around a track called “Adrift” which I originally recorded and produced back in 2005, featuring Zapaxe on lead guitar! (Speaking of Zapaxe, haven’t seen Steve for a while?? Did he get himself banned?)

Enjoy! :sunglasses:

Man, how do you do this, can you explain more about the elements in the vid. (girl dancing, hovering over the guitar) are that existing footage that you took somewhere or did you shoot it yourself.

I would really like some images on some of my tracks to make it more interesting. Is that a lot of work? I was looking for material and I found some footage of fractals, and learned that you can make that yourself. Is that something you are familiar with? Fractals can really enhance some songs of mine. But because it are all presets I can’t figure out how that works. I would like the animations to follow the song (dark to bright, explosive and seren, that kind of stuff and then on the beat)

So if you are interested in guiding one of my tracks, or want to experiment. Maybe I can do something for you, or pay, but I am not rich

Great stuff!

pretty cool… I had to comment because as I was scouring the internet for free royalty free video I downloaded a lot of clips that you used here, most notable the opening and closing flying through the clouds thing, so if you see me post a video that has that same scene I hope you don’t think I copied you. you added some cool little stuff to it though. I would have liked to see someone playing at some points, it seemed like it was all footage, but it was cool for the most part, nice job.

Enjoyed that. I think Steve is still posting fairly regularly. Was the dancing girl from the free video site? You can drop the dancing dude with the baggy pants. Hope I didn’t just insult you!

Ian, this looks great. Really impressive stuff. Feck, you could do this for a living :open_mouth:
I actually just watched this (the monitors are off just now) but I have the album in any case, Fabulous project :sunglasses:
Cheers

I’ve made extensive use of free animated video backs on this. There’s a ton of royalty-free (non-commercial use) stuff out there.

etc etc

I also found a whole lot of free ‘war’ stuff last year - blue screened explosions, bombs, tanks, dismembered bodies etc - can’t for the life of me remember where now. It was all standard def stuff though but I still had to use an explosion from that collection just for fun!

That nearly happened. I did a TV commercial for my wife’s boss last year for use on the local Chinese/Taiwanese TV. It was very well-received at the time. I equipped myself with a few resouces, including a green screen which covers the wall of a spare bedroom. I also made some DIY spot lights from some domestic halogen lamps mounted on mic stands. All in the hope that I might get more work. But it never happened. :frowning: There’s a whole bunch more stuff I’d like to buy from these guys too,

I’d happily replace the dancer silhouettes in this with musicians but organising Steve who lives on the other side of the planet could be a major issue! Actually I haven’t heard back from one of the dance clip owners  (maybe it was filmed illegally??): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkLrFpo0lHA
Those snippets were converted to high-contrasted B&W and chroma-keyed over the backgrounds as in fact were many of the other elements. :sunglasses:

I know what they are but I have never messed around with them. I guess you could make your own backgrounds. Actually I did one make my own animated backdrop from from a screensaver…can’t for the life of me remember how I did it now?? It was one of those screensavers with lots of swirly animated colours - some how I captured it and made it into a video clip.

Sure is!! :astonished:

There was about 30-odd hours work in this one… :open_mouth:

Great work Ian, and a cool track too. I appreciate the “hourage” (as opposed to simply the footage).

I to can appreciate the hours building this stuff, stock footage or not, it takes alot of patience. I’m trying to finish some stuff myself.
what a great track for this to, so uplifting, works great with the vid. nice to hear you on piano. thoroughly enjoyed it!!

nice work!!..now I know what I have ahead of me…working on producing a video as well

Cheers guys. Yeah… it’s a crazy amount of time for only 7 minutes of video. And I recall a previous vid I did for a much shorter track than this took closer to 100hrs! :astonished: But I did a lot of green screen stuff in that one - generally of me goofing around  And I really discovered too how insane the hours can get when I played around with Adobe Aftereffects - I made an exploding title - a clip that lasts a mere 10 seconds - took me a whole afternoon! :open_mouth:

Nice mate, good song and good effort on the video. It does look a bit standard-y but there’s not much you can do about that if you can’t film your own material. I found the girl dancer had some framerate issues in certain parts, as did some of the effects. Most of it was well done though.

Cheers. Yeah the framerate problems are unfortunately a result of stretching clips to fit in a certain time-frame. I guess it would be ideal if the original source clips were shot at 60fps! :sunglasses:

:sunglasses:

No, I’ve not been banned

you should be! :stuck_out_tongue:

I see your sister left a comment on the Youtube page. :sunglasses:

I struggle doing a 3 minute song - a 7 minute song and video as well…epic indeed!
Great stuff Ian and Steve

:sunglasses:

thats too cool, would be neat in reverse to

Thanks !

Actually, I lied - its only 5 seconds long! :open_mouth: And yeah, it would be cool in reverse… and at least THAT would be easy to do  Adobe After Effects does my head in
