VIDEO - Bend Like The Trees

Recorded and mixed in C15. Images used for the AI video animation are photos I’ve taken in my local neighbourhood over the last few years. The protagonist (me) based on a recent selfie. Edited in DaVinci Resolve:

Fun pop. The video fits pretty well too!

You took a picture of yourself and used AI to make a video of yourself instead of taking a video of yourself?

Lovely song, the lyrics are great sung very sincerely and the mix is really good, sounds very pro . I also could imagine a stripped down version of this a bit like leonard cohen, just to showcase the lyrics . The video looks good .

Exactly. Filming oneself in a multude of different settings and contexts is near impossible.

Thanks! :+1:

Happy you enjoyed this one. The Leonard Cohen reference is very applicable - I tend to lean in that direction vocally… more so now that I’m older! I’ve done a couple of tracks in the past with a Leonard-like approach in mind. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

You have a thousand dollar smartphone in your pocket with a better camera than Disney or Industrial Light and Magic had in the 1990’s, and filming yourself walking down the street is near impossible? Common things that ten year olds post on social media on a daily basis?

I’m bothering you about this because we’ve gone full circle here. People started using AI to animate imaginary things that are not real (so they have to be CGI to exist). A few years later I’m seeing real things being faked on purpose (Real scenarios that don’t need AI). I’m wondering what the point of doing that is.

When I heard a gen alpha kid refer to a book as a “paper PDF” that’s when I realized we’re cooked. We’re worse than cooked.

A few corrections before moving on.

First ,I don’t own a $1000 smartphone, so the thousand-dollar camera you hullicinate in my pocket doesn’t exist. That assumption is the foundation of your argument, and it’s wrong.

Second, Disney and ILM’s landmark work in the 1990s was CGI: computer-rendered imagery. No camera was involved. Comparing a smartphone camera to a render farm is a category error. The actual cameras they used for live-action work were professional 35mm film rigs that a smartphone doesn’t meaningfully surpass.

Third, I use AI video as a creative medium, not as a workaround for lacking equipment. The same logic you’re applying would ask why a music producer uses a DAW and synthesisers instead of just recording a live band in a room. We’re on a music production forum. Think about that.

You’ve been making a lot of noise about AI across this forum. That’s your call. But when the argument rests on assumptions about me personally that are factually wrong, and technical claims that don’t hold up, it’s worth the forum seeing that clearly.

I’m done engaging on this one, your anti-AI rants are becoming rather tedious and incredibly tiresome. If you don’t like it, it’s not your thing, just move on. Simple.
