Hi, when I drag and drop / import a videofile, the (stereo) audio is always split into two mono tracks? I didn’t had this problem in previous Nuendo versions. I also sometimes experience a similar problem with importing files from media bay being split. Normally it helps to solve this, when I drag and drop audio directly from the harddisc into the project window and uncheck the split option in the pop-up dialog. The next importing from media bay, audio isn’t split…
If Nuendo splits a stereo track into two mono tracks (left/right) during import, the option to split multi-channel files is active in the import dialog or in the preferences.
There are certain containers or ways of coding a, for instance, ProRes or DNxHD Files, that put single mono Streams on the channels of the video container. Some Broadcasters need this coding. You can check “Mediainfo” for that. In these cases Nuendo should recognize the audio in those video files as mono and import them as such.
I know this is the case in some ob the files I get. So maybe check that out.
Hi, as I said, the split option in the import dialog is not active. Where in the preferences can I set this up, never saw an option for split settings in the preferences?

yeah I also get videos where for example music and fx is on one channel and dialog on the other one… but that’s not the case here. I just want to import videos with stereo audio on a stereo track and not two mono tracks.
If the video’s audio inadvertently appears as two mono tracks or is otherwise incorrect, open the Pool (Ctrl + P [Windows] or Cmd + P [Mac]) and check the stereo setting.
Select the video’s audio ID there and right-click on it. Then, select the option to convert the channels to “Stereo Interleaved.”
Thanks for the advise. That’s what I’m currently always doing, converting the mono channels to stereo. But it is annoying as this didn’t happen to me when I was back on Nuendo 12. There the audio wasn’t split at import, except I ticked the option in the import dialog…
That’s what I did for years and it always worked, but now it always splits the audio as described in my initial post.
Ok, I’ve tested and tried various things… it really looks like it depends on the video container / container settings / codec. So with some video container formats, Nuendo always splits the embedded audio. That’s the point where I am now, but I can’t tell which video container settings or codec causing this behaviour.
The current problem is with a mp4. But as I said, there must be some “special” video container settings / codec with this file, because normally I don’t experience this behaviour with mp4 ( and also not with other containers)
it is not really the codec itself, but how it is coded…
Here are 2 examples of a ProRes File. Ok yes, one is HQ and one is LT and one is WAV and one is AAC, but the concept is the same. They both got exported from Resolve and are both MPEG-4 (QuickTime).
You can check your files with “Mediainfo”
When there are 2 Audio Streams, they get imported separately, even if, vlc or other players would interpret it as stereo. That is my understanding whatsoever.
So… its an export Setting as far as I know… Don’t know which though, I only get them, not make them 
Yeah, seems like this is the “solution” / explanation to the problem. But I wonder why Nuendos import dialog can’t overrule this…
