Virtual Keyboard sounds better than external keyboard

I have noticed that the sound, especially of a VST piano, sounds much clearer when played on the virtual instrument rather than the actual external keyboard. My genos keyboard is connected via a usb to my pc. I’ve looked at the integrated sound card on my top rated motherboard and ensured that it is set on a neutral setting. I am using Cubase 10.5 and have tried a number of VST pianos.

Have you tried changing the velocity response setting on your external and virtual keyboard? What you’re describing sounds like a velocity difference between the two keyboards.

Thanks for your response and apologies for the delay. I’ll see if it makes a difference

The virtual keyboard sends velocity 127 (or sometimes 100), real keyboards from 0 to 127 depending how hard you play. pianos sound brighter when played harder.
