Virtual midi out on Cubasis LE 3

On Cubasis 2 I can choose at routings virtuell midi, so my audio unit send effect gets midi. It’s gone on 3. How to send midi to internal. May a AU bug but all midi out in Cubasis 3 and in the effect LE 3 in - it has no effect. I want to use voice synth like on 2 now on Cubasis 3 which has keyboard support. Have audio bus 3 and bought synth voice now with no success.

Any advices!?

Thx Tom

This is still a problem in Sept. 2025. Cubasis 3 MIDI output routing only offers the virtual MIDI ports of other apps. The Cubasis 3 virtual MIDI ports (in and out) are visible in other apps, like AUM, but they cannot be accessed in Cubasis. This limitation is a serious problem when trying to connect to another app that only listens to ports from other apps. The only solution I’ve found is to use AUM as a virtual MIDI bridge. The Cubasis 3 Operation Manual from 2020 mentions the Cubasis 3 Virtual MIDI port, but it seems to be inaccessible.

I am having a similar problem trying to send a Program Change Message from Cubasis 3 on iOS to a new app I just purchased called Sessions Plugin Host, even though Cubasis can see Sessions in the Routing Midi Output.

The purpose of this Midi message is to change any 1 of 12 Scenes in Sessions, each scene can contain any AUv3 plugin and any fx units, but this can’t happen if there is no communication with apps outside of Cubasis.

I will watch your post with interest.

Mike.

you could try to use something like MidiFire or Keystage to create Virtual ports

Hi Robert,

I have tried using AUM as a MIDI bridge, the problem seems to be that both Cubasis and AUM only see Network Sessions 1 - not Sessions. I contacted the developer and they told me they don’t have Cubasis and therefore can’t test Sessions.

Thanks for your help

Hi @fixitmania53

I’m at hand to provide the engineer with a free Cubasis promo code for testing purposes, if required.

Best,
Lars

Good morning Lars,

Thank you, the issue is Cubasis doesn’t list itself as a virtual MIDI target and therefore it won’t be seen by Sessions. but I have now solved this problem with the help of some friends on the Loopy Pro forum, by using one of two Stand-a-lone apps as a MIDI Bridge, these are AUM and Streambyter, the latter requires no setting up at all, just launch it and leave it running in the background and have it select as MIDI Output in Routing in Cubasis 3, Sessions automatically connects to Streambyter as MIDI Input so it is very straightforward.

Have a great day.

Mike

Hey Mike

would you elaborate bit more on your solution ,as i gotta feeling it

might be useful for solving other virtual routing problems.

thanks

Hi Robert,

Certainly,

first of all Cubasis does not list itself as a virtual MIDI target and can’t be seen by some plugins, so, in AUM, open the Routing Matrix and just select the path between AUM-Destinatin and AUM-Source, then set AUM as MIDI Output in Cubasis 3 Routing and MIDI Input in the plugin you intend using.

The next method is even easier, download the free app called Streambyter and launch it, no need to set anything up, just leave it running in the background and select it the same way as AUM in Routing for Cubasis 3 > Streambyter > Plugin.

Another method which works for some external MIDI keyboard connection issues is MIDI Wrench, just launch it and leave it running in the background and that’s it.

Hopefully this information will be of some use to you👍

Mike🍻

Thanks. old good midi wrench.
