Visual organization/filtering of the Mixers in large scores

I wonder if it would be possible to add some visual clues to reflect the instrumentation structure in the Mixers? I use a full orchestra template (first, second, fourth players …), with a embedded sketch score, solo players, big percussion section and more. Haven’t counted, maybe 80+ players.

The problem is working with the Mixer. Transferring from the Sketch to the Full score I frequently mute/unmute the sketch instruments so I can audition the Full playback. It’s hard to find individual instruments in the mixer because its a flat list.

Two thoughts for possible approaches

First: there already is a “Show” filtering system for the mixer so just augment that, if there could be a secondary filtering system similar to the score filtering, where you could only show a set of instruments. Could be a full solution like the score, or there’s a simpler approach as follows

  • Simple solution: piggyback the score filtering system. Put a checkbox on the mixer - “Filtered instruments” or something, and only show the mixer inserts for those instruments which are already score filtered - see below.

Second: put visual boxes around the inserts showing groupings - winds, brass etc. This would be more work and take up more screen real estate, but would work also.
