Working on a piece for Concert Band that has a vocal singing part for all players. Currently (as you can see on the screen shot) the vocal parts printed on each staff are transposing with the instrument. Is it possible to have the vocal parts in those 7.5 measures go to Concert Pitch and then go back to transposing partway through m. 17? The Clarinet part would need to go back to transposing on the last beat.
Daniel,
Luckily, I have a very good Playback file with the original Finale Score saved as a MP3. I guess I really would only need the Dorico file for the visual effect of the score.
You could add a voice “instrument” to each player in your score (e.g., a soprano) and put your vocals in that part. You’d have to fix the labels for instrument changes (and the part names), but this would accommodate your flute and clarinet returning to playing their instrument mid-measure (and playback should be accurate then, too).
True. I missed noting the condensing in the original screen shot.
You could partially mitigate the effects with page breaks, but the condensing would still be affected with the pickups in the flute part.
One other idea would be creating an extra part for the vocals for each transposition needed and then cueing that part in the respective players. Then you could have the transposed vocal parts not play back (while the concert vocals DO play) and retain correct playback along with having each instrument see the vocals in the correct key. You would also probably want to use local key signatures as suggested above. The only advantage here over just transposing and local key signatures is that you could keep accurate playback.
