For some reason when recording vocals on Cubase Essentials 5 the vocals fade out when I hold a note. Can someone tell me how to fix this please?

Don’t back away from the microphone?
Seriously, it’s hard to say without hearing an audio example.
Are you using any noise gate type effects that might be trying to cut off the signal as it gets weaker?
