Voice Management section: what is the "Excl" field for?

Hi folks,

I’m messing around with exclusive groups and polyphony (in order to choke an open high-hat with a closed one).

In the voice management section, you have table with these 4 fields:

No - Poly - Excl - Voice mode

Ok, so “No” is voice group number.
“Poly” is the amount of polyphony.
Voice mode is self explanatary.

But WHAT is the “Excl” field for? It has a choice of 1 to 32.

I can find no explanation of it in the manual!

Thanks! … J

That “Exclusive” is what you want in this case.
Samples that belong to same exclusive group will cut off each other.

Try this:

Thanks, i worked it out.

That “Excl” field can be used to let voice GROUPS mute (or choke) each other.

So say you have several sample zones assigned to a Group 1, with high polyphony (so no muting or choking going on).

You could then (for example) have a ride cymbal assigned to exclusive group 2. Now, if you also assign GROUP 1 to group 2 , The ride sample will choke any sample (or combination of samples) from Group 1. See image below. So it’s basically a way to make nested groups.

So say you have a closed hi-hat choking an open high-hat, because they’re both assigned to Excl group 1 with polyphony = 1.

You don’t need to set the polyphony to 1 for this to work.

Usually the factory drum kits use oneshot mode for samples, key polyphony 4 and exlusive groups as needed…

If you set the voice group polyphony to 1 and play the same drum sample in quick succesion, each sample playback will cut off the previous one as soon as it starts. It may be cool if that’s what you want, but it can sound weird especially with a bit longer samples.

If you set the key polyphony to 4 (or any other reasonable number), you can leave the voice group polyphony at its default 128 and only use the exclusive groups for choking.

Yeah, you’re too quick, i changed my example / edited my post!
