If I copy notes from a one-line system to a five-line system it must end up somewhere (still thinking of vertical position). Can that be controlled in some way?
Sorry, I don’t understand. Are you talking about copying to a five-line pitched staff or a five-line percussion staff? Or cueing rather than copying?
Ok, in this graphic the upper staff is a 5-line drum staff, and the lower is obviously a single-line percussion staff. I copied the notes from the lower to the upper, and the notes ended up as cross-heads in the bass clef c // treble clef a position. What controls where the pasted notes will be placed?
I think that Dorico tries to intelligently match the instruments up. If your unpitched staff is a repurposed snare drum, for instance, and your five-line kit has a snare in the usual second-space-down position, Dorico will automatically paste it on the second space. If there’s no match found, I think it just pastes to the highest instrument that exists on the kit. You can always use Cmd/Ctrl-Alt-Up/Down to shunt the notes up and down the kit (bearing in mind that it’ll only go for lines/spaces/noteheads that are defined in the kit editor).
Ok. I was thinking that also single-line instrument actually had an “intrinsic” pitch that is used when e. g. copying, thus it would perhaps be possible to change. But this is not something that I will do very often so this a detail, of which I just was a bit curious. Thanks for your great replies!
