Voices Feature Request

I am starting to grasp the way Dorico handles voices and have found I only really need upstem voice 1 and downstem voice one and have a key command assigned to both, However, it is hard to keep track of when I need to use the downstem key command OR the add new voice key command. I wish there was a way for Dorico to notice I don’t have a downstem voice yet and then add it when I tell it to put a note in downstem voice one.

Please let me know if I am using this incorrectly or if there is a more efficient way.

Erm? It does! Or am I misunderstanding?
When you are doing note entry, the little note icon at the bottom of the orange caret tells you what voice the next note will be entered as. You can cycle through available voices using V. And you can add a new voice using shift-V.

Im talking about when music is already in the staff and I want to put something in a new voice. I can hit option 2 if I have added that voice already, but if I havnt yet, i need to hit shift v.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

You can always use right-click>voices>change voice… and if you do it often you can assign a shortcut.

I had a thread about this a couple years ago. A few tips therein.

If you hit V (to move a selection to voice 2) and nothing happens (because there is no voice 2 yet), you just press Shift V.

I’d suggest there’s not a need for any other shortcuts when working with voices.

Even if you put something into the wrong voice, you can just keep pressing V until it gets round to the correct voice again.
