VST doesn't answer

I’m trying to use my keyboard controllers with Cubase 14 and the VSTs won’t respond, but when I run the Halion standalone it responds fine; does anyone have any answers?

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Once you add the Instrument Track and select HALion Sonic SE from the list of instruments, ensure you also load a patch/sound within the HALion Sonic SE instrument.

Try to click on the Virtual Keyboard of HALion Sonic SE. Do you hear any sound?

Attach a screenshot of the Routing tab of the given Instrument Track, please. Is the Input set to All MIDI Inputs? Is the Input Channel set to Any Input?

Open Studio > Studio Setup > MIDI Ports Setup. Is your MIDI Keyboard enabled in the All MIDI Inputs column? Attach a screenshot, please.

Double-check all Remote Devices and Quick Controls in the Studio Setup window. Isn’t your MIDI Keyboard in use as an Input of any Remote Device (MIDI Remote, Generic Remote, Mackie Control) or Quick Controls Device?

Double-check the Preferences > MIDI > MIDI Filter. By default, only the SysEx option is enabled as a filter. Also, make sure the Channels are not filtered out (it’s hard to see whether the button is enabled; the color is just slightly lighter). Attach a screenshot, please.

Screenshots are in short supply, but I can answer the questions

Everything in the VST works as described using the mouse

I’ve tried omni, tried channel 1, still no dice

Every keyboard I use is active, in “all MIDI”, and visible; still nothing

Even with quick controls disabled, doesn’t respond

That’s one thing I haven’t checked, so I’ll try it and get back to you; thanks for the suggestion

Else, I’m at a loss - one controller is pretty much ancient and has no support, one isn’t even an actual controller and has no available drivers, and one I just got has most everything behind the wall of “create a new account”

Check the MIDI Monitor in Studio Setup to ensure that Cubase receives MIDI data.

I’ve checked everything I can, and I went to the previous version to see if they work (which they did) and they still don’t do anything other than quick controls.

So, I’m not sure what I did, but they’re working now. I’m still open to advice and preventive measures to keep them working the way I need
