Some days ago I had big problems and warnings that led me to use the Steinberg assistant to reinstll the new installer, then yj2 2 Hallion bundles, \I did and after that it seemed to be ok.
But now it is imposible to have playback working, and even trying kills the VST engine.
Does the previously transmitted crash dump and the screenshot show some light on the problem?
Hi @pmc.galoubet, since the crashes sent by restarting Dorico are anonymous, it would be possibly better if you could upload it, or a Diagnostic Report, here (you can create it from menu Help) for the Team to be able to connect the issue to your post.
After you’ve done what Christian suggests, please post here a screenshot of what you see in your Steinberg Download Assistant when you single-click on My Products > Halion 7.
That will show the state of your Halion installs… maybe there are some files missing, or ones which need to be re-installed.
What happens if you ‘Install Again’ each of those four sets of files - by single clicking on ‘Install All’ at top right.
Any errors?
My suggestion is based on the possibility that doing so will overwrite and/or rectify any possible corruption and/or install any possibly missing files, which may be causing the problems you are encountering. Good luck!
Marks advice is well meant but before installing everything again, I’d like to find out some things before. Because according to the log files you are missing not all sound libraries, but a lot of it.
So please first do the following:
Open a command prompt window by pressing the Windows key and typing the three letters c, m and d. Then after hitting the return/enter key a little black window shall apppear
Into that window copy and paste the command
dir /S /Q /N C:\ProgramData\Steinberg\Content > %userprofile%\Desktop\SMTGContents.txt
Again, after hitting return or enter the file SMTGContents.txt shall appear on your Desktop. That file please zip up and also post here
I have the suspicion that you indeed installed all sound contents libraries, but that something is wrong with it.
On the other hand, the crash that you experienced seems to be a different, unrelated issue which I would not be too concerned about at the moment, as it seems to be rather a one of crash, or do you happen to get such crash notifications regularly?
I notice that in the MIssing Sample Files image in my first post, the referenced resouyrces were onr ,wav and 2 .tg3c, while the files in the STMG contents do not list such extensions, only .vsrsound, or .link.
The link as such is not the problem. Please check in the link’s properties that the link actually links to an existing file. I assume it links to your downloads folder and that the file(s) there have been cleaned out leaving the link now broken and HALion Sonic not being able to find the actual sound files.
Currentky I use dorico on an old laptop, windows 19, modesr disk space, modest processing speed. I knew for some time I wpuld have to change, but for the meantime.
I have a 1T external drive Western Digital.
I decide at some time that sounds target, particurarly Contents reduced too much my first drive space, and I decided to mobe them to the Western Digital.
In the Download Assistant there is provision for for doing such a thing, meaning asking installed tergets to use different paths than the default value for download (actually by creating links from the default locations?)..
At one point I did that, and it did work for a time, I di check it.
What must have happened recently was
either I made a mistake in one of the update operations of Dorico 6
or at one time I either ran such an update or some playback operation when the Wedtern digital was accidentally off!
I Imagine it could have resulted in sucn a mess?
Now I have my new laptop, and I intend to migrate dorico to it. Even if there is more main drive space on it, I woul still like to use the Wedtern Digital for download, but I would have to make that secure! Iw shall be grateful for precise instructions.
In the meantime of course Iwill onlu se dorico with playback off, and avoid updates.
Every attempt to launch Dorico gets stuck waiting for Sound Engine initialisation. Terminate is necessary, but this does not create any diagnostics, and dorico and VSTEngine are killed.
And any further has the same result.
SO now I cannot run Dorico at all, even without playback,
