I have a problem when mixing down my project. All the 4 VST Instruments have all of a sudden failed to mixdown. They work perfectly fine within the project but when mixed-down individually or with the whole project they are for some reason muted in the exported result. Freezing the instrument solves this problem but I am looking for a more convinient solution, presumably a way for it to function as before. It seems like there is some error for them to be rendered in the stereo output just in the case of mixing down.

Could you try to change the Buffer Size before you Mixdown, please? Some plug-ins don’t work correctly with all Buffer Size settings during offline processes.
I expect, you are Exporting in offline mode, not in Realtime, right?
