I’m trying to understand the logic behind turn off the precount if the metronome is on. How do I get an audible count in without the metronome?
Hi SDF, the only current way is to automate Metro ON/OFF. BTW as a feature request for later, I would like it ![]()
Click track?
That is how I do it right now but - you know this - VL’s click soundz can’t be used for, meaning: you fall of the flow if one single song has different click sounds
Click track is not always appropriate either, but works for me.
I don’t understand I reverted back to using 3.0.30 and the precount button stays on when the metronome is on. So it works like it should, or at least how I was using it. I get a count in based on the number of bars you select in the “Count In Bars” box. It’s been that way up until 3.0.31. See screenshots below. The way I was using precount was to make sure I come in on the correct beat, so I would feed the metronome into my headphones/earbuds. I get an audible precount and the metronome turns off on the first beat of the song.
Precount stays on when you save it in that position.
Precount no longer saves on if metronome is on
So what am I missing.
Wouldn’t I have to create a click track for every single song?
Only the ones that need it: If the drums or backing tracks bring in the song then I don’t bother. That said, if I buy in stems they usually come with a click but I don’t always use them.
If needed I can easily add a click to the ones I create in Cubase. I know there’ll be no argument about whether the click lines up and I can place it where I want it rather than it always be present in the IEMs.
Again, that may not be appropriate for you.
That would be a lot of work, my 1 playlist is 70 songs. The precount worked really well and was easy because it followed the tempo track for the backing tracks.
Probably you didn’t learn how it works. There are 4 buttons - Metronome, Count In, PreRoll and PreCount. All them makes enough variations. Also the way you want (if I understood you) is possible - you need 4 clicks before each song, but don’t need the metronome in the song, right? It works.
It does work, but you have to turn precount on for every song because of the change that was made in version 3.0.31 “Force precount off if metronome on”. Well precount only works if metronome is on. So what am I missing?
Sorry for late understanding ![]()
@Spork, were any changes made to make it work like this? We save project with Metronome on and PreCount on, but on next project open only Metronome is on.
@SDF, you don’t have to switch PreCount on for every song. Just activate it and it will be on for all songs. At least it works this way in 3.0.33.
I just tested in 3.0.33 and your right you don’t have to set precount for every song, but every time I open the project I have to turn precount back on.
Compare this “bug” to the situation you go on stage without VST Live ![]()
You know that it does this way, just check precount every time you open project. Once they fix it, it will behave otherway.
It is an awesome application!
