VST live: Error message "Another MediaServer is running. shutdown?"

Dear VST-Live-Team,

via an internal session with my band yesterday I received the following error message VST LIVE:

Does anybody know what how I can interpret such an error message?

What might be the root cause for such an error message (I saw it the first time).
What happens if I click on “shutdown” or “cancel”?
What would be recommended?

I would assume that nothing on my configuration at VST live should be changed.
Intuitively I would restart my Windows 11 computer and hope that such a message is not shown again.

I am lucky that that this message was shown during a training session with my band and not on stage at a live show.

In my setup I have multiple songs where I retrologue (changed all my VST sounds to 100% steinberg VSTs, therefor I need to trust that all this Steinberg-VSTs are running).

Thanks in advance for feedback and recommandations.

Kind regards

Sam

Have you closed VSTL shortly before?

Hi @SKO

“Shutdown,” please.

Cubase and HALion Sonic share a component called the “MediaService”. It seems that in your case, the MediaService may not have shut down correctly.

Could you please start the “Steinberg Download Assistant (SDA)” and make sure you’re running the latest version of the MediaService? The SDA will install it automatically.

See you
Michael.

Thank you @Spork and @Falfango for your fast and helpful feedback.

@spork: I am checking Steinbertg Download Assistent regularly from time to time and try to be always “up to date”.

Currently it looks like that all updates are installed:

As I cannot see any markers for updates.

@falfango:
Yes, I guess I needed to restart VST Live because auf an other issue I had yesterday.

As I worked with win11, I realized that I had to wait 30 to 60s after closing VSTL, before I can open it again without errors. On Mac I don’t see this behaviour.

seems like all is about timing… if Cubase or VST Live is closed it is still freeing up memory, etc… in the background that takes time. That’s all, nothing more.
