VST Panner Automation Data - Modulator

I have a very specific problem here. When I work in Dolby Atmos Mode I try to attach a modulator on parameters of the VST panner which of course works and creates great effects but the movement of the panners don’t get registered with the ADM renderer. So I need to somehow get those movements of the modulators backed to automation data but whatever I tried did not work.

Does somebody know the trick to transfer the movement of modulators in the VST panner to readable automation data which the ADM renderer als can export ?

Thanks for the help in forward.

And if this function is not available it should definitly be on the “ To-Do “ list of any future Nuendo updates.

From the Cubase Manual (this is missing from the Nuendo Manual)

Important

Modulator output cannot be written as automation data.

Therefore, you cannot export modulation signals. For example, the modulation of panning parameters or the channel volume cannot be exported in Dolby Atmos mixes.

  • To be able to export automated parameters, create automation curves on automation tracks.

That is a feature which should be possible in a future update.

For now, I’ve exported the tracks with modulators on them out to a 7.1.4 WAV file, then I bring it back into the session and make it into an object bed. PITA.

That’s what I thought but it’s not really cool. I think this feature should be available at least in the upcoming Nuendo 15 update.

Totally agree, when Modulators were implemented I couldnt get my head around the fact you couldn’t write the modulation to automation. If a modulator can control a volume fader then it sure should be able to have those fader movements written as automation! Maybe the Dev’ team werent able to work it out in time for release or perhaps Steinberg dont see the importance or significance of this. But we are left guessing…..

I completly agree - I can not believe that it’s not possible that modulation movement can be transformed to automation data - I even see the parameter move in the automation track.

It can be achieved and works with a (jumping through hoops) method using ‘loopmidi’ and a new ‘midi remote’ set to Quick controls. A midi track LFO insert outputs to the loopmidi and the quick control device sends to the audio track QC, automation can be written this way…….but now we are not using the new modulators!

Thanks for the heads up but that sounds really complicated. Why can this feature not be part of Nuendo 15 ? I guess we are not the only ones who would like a smooth solution for this problem.
