VST Plug-in paths

I am trying to open an Cubase project which uses a VST Instrument (Reveal Spire). It is a purchased Cubase template from a few years ago. Although I have Spire installed (and use it successfully on other projects) I get a Spire plug-in not found notification when the project is opening. When the open the track inspector shows: !!! Lead 1 !!! , but there is no information to show what VST ‘path’ the track is looking for. How can I find, and change, that path to point the track and the project towards the loaded instrument, whilst retaining the actual instrument settings within the project itself.

In my naivety I thought right-clicking on the !!! box in the track inspector and selecting the loaded Spire instrument would work, but the project settings for the instrument aren’t saved and it reverts to init. I haven’t been able to resolve this through plug-in manager because I don’t know what plug-in path the track is looking for.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There could be a couple of reasons for what’s going on here.

It could be a VST2 plugin that was being used in the template. If you use Cubase 14 support for VST2 has been switched off by default. To switch it back on open the VST plugin manager in Cubase. At the bottom of that dialog you should see a “power” button for VST2. After switching it on you’ll have to load your template again.

If you are on Mac and use Cubase as the native silicone version (not Rosetta) then there won’t be any VST2 support anymore.

Hi Johnny Moneto, many thanks for your reply. You were right about it being a VST2 plug-in within the template, and I have now resolved it by installing a new VST2 version of Spire. I previously only had the VST3 version installed. It wasn’t quite the issue you mentioned but your solution pointed me in the right direction, so thank you and much appreciated :folded_hands: :slightly_smiling_face:
