VST-recommendations for a recording-beginner

Hello folks,

I´m quite new to recording in general and write songs for my medieval-rockband (with some metal influences) in Guitar Pro 7, but they sound very artificial because of the MIDI sound. Since I´m the bass player of the band and can´t play any other instruments, I can´t just record the other instruments in Cubase and need to find a way to make the imported MIDI files from GP7 sound better. After reading about VST instruments I tried to find a way to implement them, but now I´m a bit overwhelmed and in 99% I find VST instruments and plugins I need a MIDI keyboard for or I´m simply to stupid to implement into my Cubase 14. :smiley:

Do I get it right, that I can import the GP7 MIDI into Cubase and put a sound effect on it, to make the f.e. sound like a real guitar? Can you folks recomment any VST or VST instruments for guitar or bagpipe? And for fun: can you recommend other medieval-instrument-VST or a VST-spinet?

It would be ok for me to buy them, as long as it doesn´t cost a ton. Like paying several hundred bucks for 1-2 instruments I need.

Guitar Pro is still very much alive and available, has not been discontinued and can be upgraded to version 8 at a discount. You can also export MusicXML from GP into Cubase.

There are also perfectly adequate guitar amp sims built into Cubase.

This happens not to be the case.
I haven’t used a keyboard (which I cannot play!) since the late 90s. For 25 years I’ve used a mouse and the Key Editor in Cubase.
Best guitar amp sim is the Buxom Betty from Plugin Alliance, closely followed by the Dirty Shirley. (I’m not making these names up! I use them for all my guitar tracks,)
MusicLAb produce some of the best guitar instruments, especially the RealLPC (Les Paul).
