This is on Win11, Cubase 14 Pro version 14.0.41, affecting MANY plug-ins, but I was particularly hunting for Archetype files by Neural DSP.
I don’t understand why much of my library is unavailable through the media tab (the one typically on the right side). The items are listed but grayed out with no thumbnail almost like a folder. They are also listed in the VST plug-in manager, and I can take the long way to activate and load a plug-in (audio track, edit channel, inserts). In mediabay, the VST3 folder under common files does not show anything beyond subfolders. Renaming or removing the mediabay database file has had no effect, nor has rescanning and refreshing it. I do not recall having this issue before updating Cubase 14 (most recent, about three weeks ago I think).
I uninstalled the entire application and deleted all %appdata% and %localappdata% Steinberg folders besides download manager, shutdown any leftover processes in task manager, rebooted before installing and the issue persists. iLok is updated and logged in. Updating all plug-in information from the manager menu did cause a crash, so I’m not sure but could be related.
I finally got around to installing Reaper (because I’ve wanted to focus on Cubase), and it built, loaded and provided the VST3 library without a hiccup whatsoever…so the other software pieces are fine.
It is no exaggeration to say that I experience similar setbacks when opening this software every single time. This cannot be the norm. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Cubase often lacks read permissions for the content folders (on Windows, typically located in the C:\ProgramData\Steinberg directory). Adjust the folder’s security settings to grant full access.
the screenshots you have posted look normal to me. Don’t forget, you can’t see 3rd party presets in the Mediabay which are not saved as *vstpreset (Steinberg’s format). 3rd party presets from UAD, Soundtoys etc don’t comply with Steinberg’s *vstpreset file format.
Have a look at this 3rd party plugin: The green zone is where you store a preset as *vstpreset which will pop up in Mediabay. The red zone saves the very same preset in a different format which can only be accessed via the red zone of the plugin itself and not via Mediabay.
You can drag a plugin from the right zone into an insert slot of your audio track, that’s possible. However, most users presumably do that from within their audio track inserts. This way, you’ll see the plugin collection that you’ve created in the Plugin Manager sraight away.
