I started seeing this with Spectrasonics plugins. But now I realize that Halion is doing the same, non-sampling synths appear good. Open a new project, add on instance of Halion, load a preset. Using the keys in Halion play some sounds, Halion responds. Toggle the monitor button, no out put, and the internal meters in Halion die too. Changing plugins on that track do not play subsequently, creating a new track shows the same symptom.Tried innumerable things, check full disk access, deleted VstPlugInfoV4.xml and restarted Nuendo, turned on and off ASIO guard and much more.
Doesn’t matter what the audio interface is. Tried reinstall Haloing, nada. I’m at a loss guys.

So, you toggled the monitoring button to OFF, and now no sound comes out of the instrument?
That would be why…
Thanks for chiming in . . so no when you set monitor to on, that seems to be when all audio dies and that channel has no audio (mon or REC on) toggling does nothing, button lit or not lit no audio, and no meter in Halion either, same with spectrasonics. Been a long time Nuendo user since ver 1.62. This is driving me nuts.
To clarify my OP . . :
…Starting with the track monitor off and Using the keyboard in Halion/Keyscape/Omnisphere play some sounds, Halion et al respond. Toggle the TRACK monitor to on, no output, not meters, and the internal meters in Halion die as well too. MIDI signals are responding, you can see the VSTi’s loading . . .
