I frequently use the W shortcut to switch between the full score and a part, and for the most part it works reliably and efficiently.
However, I’ve noticed that if I have a rest selected in a full score [with many flows, in my case] rather than a note, pressing W takes me to the beginning of the first flow in the part instead of to the corresponding rhythmic position, wherever that may be. If I then press W again, I’m returned to the originally selected rest in the full score.
It would be much appreciated if W could handle rests in the same way as notes, taking the user directly to the corresponding location in the part.
I only tried it with whole-note rests, not with any other rest values. Thanks for confirming the behaviour. @asherber. It’s such a useful shortcut, and it would be great if this small wrinkle could be ironed out in a future version.
I can confirm this. Both with implicit and explicit whole bar rests. My wild guess about the underlying reason is perhaps because they get consolidated into multi-bar rests in the part layouts (and for that reason aren’t really ‘present’)? I agree this is a bit of an annoyance with an otherwise very useful feature, especially because the Center Selection command also doesn’t work in these cases.
If this can’t be fixed I’d rather see that hitting W does nothing in these cases (so I am reminded I should select something else while not losing my view) rather than taking me to the beginning of flow 1.
