I switched over from 11.2 to 12 on the new year, and even though I imported my Wavelab 11 settings, it seems like my file hierarchy has changed.
When I made a new folder and added audio files and a montage in WL11, I just used to see an addition folder generated “backup” if I did any Master Bus chains. All good, right?
Now in 12, I’m getting a “system” folder, and occasionally an “audio” folder generated for the same process. I don’t want this.
I cannot find the place in preferences to compare my 11 & 12 folder hierarchy to set to the same settings?
Montage’s folder hierarchy has indeed changed. The idea is to consolidate everything needed into a single folder. This enables the creation of portable copies and backups. While the system folder is mandatory, additional folders may be generated based on your edits.
Thank you for the quick reply.
Is there any way I can adjust the folder hierarchy in preferences? I’ve been seeing the new folders appearing in places I did not intend. I only wish them to be contained in the folder I created for that project/
It’s been so long since I first moved over to WaveLab 12 so I can’t remember many details but I can say that basically, I was able to get back to my preferred WaveLab 11 (and earlier) folder structure with WaveLab 12 by setting some preferences and making them persistent.
For example, I don’t need WaveLab to make copies of all the files I load into a montage because I can manage all that myself like we had to do prior to WaveLab 12.
But yes, some new subfolder options remain in case they are needed for certain tasks but it’s easy to not see them and forget about them.
You can manually create any sub-folder you like, but the folders that are automatically created can’t be customized. They are in a consistent place so that the montage finds them when needed. Note that in the montage folder (where the .mon file is located), you can create any sub-folder you like.
FWIW, I have a template for each new project (as I think you do). One of the sub folders is ‘WaveLab’. Into this I save montages. There’s also an auto created system folder called ‘system.mon’ which has ANC files.
So far, the system.mon has been no problem and I simply ignore it.
