Wavelab 12 (on windows 10) hangs the "UI" often

I will be using wavelab and then do some UI gesture ( select a tab) then and see no response. I’ll click elsewhere and see a little “busy” circle. Sometimes I will get popup “application not responding”. In that popup I can choose “wait for application to respond” and in a few seconds wavelab will begin responding again.

Wavelab 9 seems to respond OK

(using wavelab 12.0.40)

Is there improvement in using the real ASIO-driver for the audio-device?

Maybe the situation of the topic in the thread of the linked post is of the same origin? I used WaveLab 9 PRO.

Same here…I am on Windows 10 with all the latest updates. My Windows machine is basically a gaming PC on steroids. Not sure what is going on…

WL version is 10.0.40

I am using the ASIO driver for my RME interface.
Curiously I have not experienced the issue much lately. It sometimes seems happening when WL needs to get things from the OS, like list of files in a directory.

Thanks for everyone’s comments

Why do you use Windows 10?

Windoze 10 is super stable and there are ‘no surprises’.

Older machine, won’t support windows 11 (I just upgraded it from windows 7

Also as I was using WL shortly after posting yesterday the phenomenon started happening again.
The windows application log showed “application hang” events and windows was sending info to Microsoft. I shut off the error reporting thinking that the delay I was seeing might be due to network. But it still happened after shutting off error reporting.

Here is a typical sequence of events:

  • click on the “file” menu – no response, click elsewhere, observer spinning circle, get popup, select “wait for app”, WL comes back, click on file menu and get the menu
  • then click on “markers” tab, no response, click elsewhere, spinner, select “wait for app”
  • then click on the master section “add plugin”, no response, click elsewhere, etc.
In each case once WL started responding, the thing that I clicked on continued to respond.
I will post the event log info when I get to machine that has it.

Ok, would users of Windows 10 consider upgrading to Windows 12 in the future?

I was reading about this and found

  1. You Might Have to Buy a New PC for Windows 11
  2. The Windows 10 Taskbar Is Better
  3. Windows 10’s Start Menu Is Better
  4. Ads Are Coming
  5. Windows 11’s Tablet Experience Isn’t as Good as Windows 10’s
  6. Windows 11 Requires Signing in to a Microsoft Account
  7. The Action Center Is Gone in Windows 11
  8. You’d Miss the Timeline and Other Deprecated Features in Windows 11
  9. Windows 10 Offers More Choices in File Explorer Context Menus
  10. There is no rush - Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 until October 2025

I already have a ‘B system’ (Razer Gaming Laptop) running Windows 11 and the current WL version.

It is my experience … and I stress it’s only mine (well shared with a couple of others I know well) … that 10 just seems more stable and WL in my configuration seems to be ‘happier’.

Others experiences will obviously vary depending on a number of variables.

I am on a notebook that came with Windows 11 home. As I rarely use the Master Section of WL, other than to render X Hum, Acon Deverb and DeNoise2 at times, I have not faced any issues with performance of WL12 on Windows 11.

Complete uninstall using geek uninstaller and re-install may help you.
