I have to report a problem within Wavelab that is quite annoying. It is that, plugin meters have a delay of up to 40 seconds! Every time I (re-)open a plugin’s GUI, the meter bars are frozen. Waveform views within plugins are unaffected of this issue. The plugins themselves are responsive and functional all the time, but I get no visual feedback from the meters. They’re even completely empty in case I open a plugin the first time during a session. After a long time, the meters finally show up and do their thing. Unfortunately, they’re still useless because they show the past instead of what’s happening right now. Delays are not constant, the longest I’ve seen is over 40 seconds.
I have two instances of Wavelab installed. One is on a Windows 11 PC, the other on an M4 Macbook. It’s exactly the same problem on both. Only Steinberg stock plugins are in use.
New findings on this topic:
Until now, I’ve made use of the Audio Editor only. So out of curiosity I opened an Audio Montage, loaded a file into it and… it works fine. As long as I play back from the Audio Montage, there’s no meter delay (Inspector plugins as well as Mastersection), but when I use the Audio Editor, the plugins are still laggy. This is on the Windows PC. I tried the same thing on the Mac and found the problem to be completely absent. Even in the Audio Editor, the plugins respond well today. (The video I linked to in the opening post was taken from the Mac.)
Hi PG1, you were right to suspect the resampler as the culprit. With it turned off, there is no visible delay in the plugin meters.
I found that the bug occurs in conjunction with playing a looped file for some time. When I open Wavelab and start working, the delay is “only” 2-3 seconds. But it increases gradually in case of looped playback. A few minutes in, the meters are massively delayed. After stopping and resuming playback, the delay resets and increases again. This is the situation today. When I started this thread the other day, there was no such reset, but the delay stayed a constant 40+ seconds. This was with Wavelab running for hours. Today it hasn’t been running for that long. I don’t know if that causes the difference.
EDIT: The initial delay (afforementioned 2-3 sec’s) isn’t always present. Right now there is none when I first start playback, but the increase over time when looping remains the same.
