I’m still experiencing frequent crashes in WaveLab 13 after the latest update, and I may have narrowed down the issue.
The crashes happen when I’m working in a montage, sending audio out through external hardware and back in, while also running plugins on the Montage Output in real time. In this setup, WaveLab crashes roughly every second or third time I stop playback, which makes it almost unworkable.
If I use Direct Monitoring on the input instead, the problem seems to disappear. The same applies if I remove processing from the Montage Output.
What seems to consistently solve the crashes is disabling oversampling on limiters placed on the Montage Output. I’ve confirmed this with two separate limiter plugins.
So it appears the issue may be related to oversampled limiters on the Montage Output while monitoring external hardware in real time.
Oversampling happens inside the plugin, so I’m surprised that this makes a difference for WaveLab.
If I use this even in 32x oversampling, I have no crash when playing back or rendering.
But I don’t use external hardware in that case.
Yes, it’s stable here as well as long as I don’t use any external hardware with oversampled limiters running in real time on the Montage Output.
It only happens if I stop playback or if I move a plugin around somewhere that results in playback having to stop and start again. More than half the time it results in a crash.
I never had this issue in WaveLab 12, so for me it started with WL13.
Please send me a crash log.
• Finder > Go > Application > Utilities > Console.app
• Then see “Crash Logs” on the left side.
• Right click on the WaveLab crash entry, and choose “Reveal in Finder”.
• Then send me that file.
With a quick test, I couldn’t reproduce. Please describe precisely what plugins you use, in which part of the audio montage, and if you use them also in the master section.
