WaveLab 13 Pro – Audiomontage extrem langsam und ständig Unterbrechungen

Hallo zusammen,

WaveLab 13 Pro – Audio Montage extremely slow with constant interruptions

Hello everyone,

I am getting extremely frustrated with the fact that Audio Montage in WaveLab 13 Pro is no longer working properly for me. I have already tried many different things, but WaveLab keeps hanging, sometimes takes forever to load WAV files, and constantly pauses during normal work.

I honestly have no idea what exactly is causing this. All I can say is that, in my opinion, Steinberg has not done itself any favours with the development of the more recent WaveLab versions.

The older versions, such as WaveLab 8 and 9, were stable on my systems. With versions 11, 12 and now 13, however, I have repeatedly experienced problems. And from my point of view, the large number of updates has not really improved the situation.

Instead of stability being the main priority, new problems seem to appear again and again, and as a user it is extremely difficult to determine what is actually causing them. It is simply frustrating.

A job that would normally be completed relatively quickly is now taking me hours. And I am not doing anything particularly demanding: I simply want to arrange several songs as WAV files in an Audio Montage to create a mix. No effects, no complicated plug-in chains, nothing special. Nevertheless, WaveLab keeps hanging and interrupting the workflow.

And then, of course, the usual questions come up about the computer, processor, RAM, etc. I fully understand that this information can be important for troubleshooting. However, today’s computers are absolute rockets compared with the systems on which WaveLab 8 or 9 ran without these problems. A simple Audio Montage containing WAV files should not be such a challenge for a modern computer.

I actually had the same, or at least a very similar, problem some time ago. At that time, it was resolved during a telephone call with Steinberg Support. Unfortunately, I can no longer remember which setting or change solved the problem. And now the problem is back again.

At this point, I am genuinely disappointed and extremely frustrated. If even basic functions such as creating a simple Audio Montage cannot work reliably and smoothly, it should not be surprising if users eventually start looking for alternative platforms.

Perhaps someone here has experienced the same problem and, more importantly, knows the actual cause and a concrete solution.

All I really want is to be able to work with WaveLab again without having to wait after every few steps for the program to finally continue.

I took the liberty of changing the topic

You don’t say what operating system you’re using.
Some external process, maybe a virus checker, is interrupting some processes, I guess.
Or your audio files are not in the virus checker’s exclusion folders (I’m speaking about Windows here).

Are the wav files local on your WL computer … or are you loading them from a service like gdrive or dropbox?

Hello, thank you for your feedback and your question. The data is stored on a partition on my local PC—not somewhere externally, nor on an external hard drive.

Hey, I’m assuming you’re using Windows.

Have you tried excluding your Steinberg WaveLab folders and audio folders from the virus scan / Microsoft Defender?

Under “Ausschlüsse,” specify the folders that Defender should not scan.

Glad I am not the only one with problems with WL13 and montages…

@Joost_Kuczynski

It seems to be working now.
