For years, Wavelab had been rock solid at recording audio. With recent WL13 it happened several times, that on setting up recording, Wavelab just closes without notification and thereby corrupts the asio driver, which has to be reinstalled then (RME Babyface pro). Furthermode, my profiles for recording setup often get replaced by some profiles of the laptop’s built-in devices.
Once the recording is running, everything is fine, but sometimes it is a big thrill to get there…
I see no possibility that WaveLab can corrupt the ASIO driver. A driver lives in a place that is not accessible by WaveLab, which means WaveLab cannot change it. Maybe the driver is crashing, and a computer reboot is necessary in that case, but I don’t see how this would require a reinstall. Another possibility: if your RME hardware is connected via USB, just unplug it, wait 5 seconds, then plug it back in. This should be sufficient, without requiring a computer reboot. Of course, do this while no DAW is running.
You should try to get a crash dump to understand the origin of the crash.
Are you on Mac or Windows?
I’m on a windows machine and sent a PM regarding crash dump files.
I did not try, if disconnecting and reconnecting the device might have helped - that’s a good hint. I just saw, that the corresponding ASIO device is not visible any more in Wavelab and on the windows taskbar and reinstalling the driver might have had the same effect as reconnecting the device.

Mine is a RME UCX II, it happened just yesterday to me a wavelab crash (first time ever) but just after changing the buffer size by the fireface usb settings and with the montage on, right after I tried to remove a plugin and the crash happened, so then I think that caused the crash. My bad anyway.
Did you do something alike?
No, opening wav-files or audio montages just worked fine as well as changing sample rates, working with plugins, etc. Only recording setup was troublesome.
Well then has to be something else. Could you upload the last crash-dump file so PG1 has something to dig in?
