WaveLab: Just A Little Bit Of A DAW?

So, I’m starting to realize that I probably need a DAW after all. My projects consist of mostly a single instrument (piano) recorded with multiple pairs of mics that I then mix down to a single stereo mix. I’ve used Adobe Audition for the past 6 years, but I’ve recently cut the subscription chord with them. I thought perhaps WaveLab would meet my needs, but I can’t seem to find a simple thing like a mixer panel for blending multiple stereo tracks down to a single stereo track. If this can be done, I couldn’t find it in the software or in the documentation.

If it can’t be done, if WaveLab is not the right software for me, that’s fine. I just need to know. I can go the Cubase route instead. My long range goal was to get back into Cubase again, anyhow. I used Cubase versions 1 thru 3 way back in the day. I just didn’t know I’d need it again so soon.

Oh, and thank you Steinberg for trial software…

Yeah, that’s not what WaveLab is designed to do - it’s more for stuff like mastering.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

You can add or record multiple stereo or mono files in an audio montage and render whole montage as a stereo file.

Thank you, I spent some more time looking at WaveLab last night, and I think perhaps it does meet my needs. It would be nice if there was a mixer panel that had faders for each of the tracks and allowed you to adjust the blend of the various tracks. And I still need to spend some time figuring out the best way to “patch” one track with content from another. But WaveLab looks a feels a lot like what I did with Audition.

You can consider the Montage view as the track + mixer view without having a separate mixer and change the clip volume

Also check out the Inspector Window. It gives you a lot of control when you are working with a montage.

Yes, thank you. That looks very promising. So much to learn here!
