I’m beyond pissed off. All I needed to do today was load a song into Wavelab, slow the tempo by 2bpm without pitch preservation, and export it back at its original tempo and A=440Hz pitch so that the musician recreating the original demo for the client has an exact reference to what they need to recreate.
However, every time I open WaveLab, it doesn’t matter whether I open a new montage or what I choose, it opens a new project, loads the last used plugins (which were last used yesterday without issue and have all been used again in Nuendo without issue, do NOT rely on external DSP (like UAD2 or WSG), or any reason why the inserts would be a problem, and it crashes right after it loads all of the plugins every time.
The fact that WL always loads the last used mastering chain has always been the worst part about WL. Once its had even 1 project run through it, it never let’s me start from scratch ever again and I absolutely HATE that, and now I can’t even rule out the plugins to begin troubleshooting.
I’m not sure I understand the procedure you’re following.
But launch WaveLab while pressing Control (Command on Mac) to open the Startup Assistant. From there, you can choose, or not, to launch the last settings.
I finally got it to not crash by going to Project > Create Empty. Audio Montage and every type I’ve used before opened with the Master Section in its previous configuration every time.
You’ve been helpful in the past, so I believe that whatever you’re trying to say is likely helpful, just not in this particular case. I couldn’t get past the opening window where you select project type and audio device. I there didn’t seem to be any options to help the situation. I tried launching WaveLab Pro 13 while holding CNTRL. Held it for the several minutes it always takes for WaveLab to load, but that didn’t do anything different from just launching with a click alone. It never makes sense to me why WaveLab takes so much longer than Nuendo to open, when Nuendo is so much bigger. I can only assume it runs a plugin scan every single time its launched because it takes just as long for WLPro to load as it does the first time I install a new DAW and it has to create a new index of the insane catalog of plugins installed on the PC.
Now that I’ve finally got it to open without the previous MasterSection inserts that seemed to somehow be causing it to crash, how do I get Montage, Dolby Atmos, etc. to all open cleanly? It makes no sense that it has to work this way. Sure, if I’m working on an album, I might want to return to the same settings I used previously and I sometimes I get into an all analog kick and just want 1 external device insert so I can handle everything in the patchbay, but even in those situations, I’d rather just have those configurations saved with the projects and create my own presets so that I can load whatever tools I generally go to for projects with a particular sound and/or needs. I can’t see a single scenario where I would ever want the DAW to open with the last used configuration every time.
Anyway, you seem to know a way to correct that issue and I’m eager to learn how to stop it because it makes me dread using WL a lot of the time and is often my reason for mastering in Nuendo when I do so.
I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but at the top of the master section there is an option to either load or not to load the last saved preset on launch of WaveLab
