Wavelab Reset Preferences

Maybe this has been covered previously, but I haven’t seen it.

I saw the following reset recommended by Steinberg staff for a Wavelab problem on the Wavelab German forum today, and it appears to have resolved the user’s problem. http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=190&t=80461 The user was directed to the following page to Initialise Preferences:

Windows reset default preferences:
https://www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/troubleshooting-instructions-for-cubase-nuendo-and-sequel-on-windows.html (under “Initialising Preferences”)

Mac reset default preferences:
https://www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/troubleshooting-instructions-for-cubase-nuendo-and-sequel-on-mac-os-x.html (under “Initialising Preferences”)

Because the pages don’t specifically refer to Wavelab, I wondered if there’s anything wrong with doing this with Wavelab? The Steinberg rep suggests it without qualification. It seems the old preferences would be saved in the “X” folder. I tried it, and it appears one would have to manually copy all custom presets over from the “X” folder, but even so, it would be nice to have an option like this in the case of unresolvable problems, or emergency.

And if the pref reset didn’t help, one could just delete the new folder and re-name the “X” folder back to it’s original name, thus restoring all previous custom settings and presets. That seems to work without problem here, as I reverted the process and things are exactly as they were before. So is there any downside (besides having to copy the presets) to doing this in unresolvable or emergency situations?
