Wavelab12 - Loudness tab in the editor view gone. Why?

I am so used to the Loudness tab and I think it’s so useful for me that I was stunned when I saw that it’s now gone.

Why? It was one of my goto tabs. So much useful info at once.

Missing already Wavelab 11.

This has been replaced by a much more complete tool. All of what was displayed in this old tab, but also much more, is now accessible in the audio analysis tool window (and both for the audio editor and montage)

I understand and I know that the Analysis tool is more complete. However… that page was available with no clicks. I would have preferred to have available BOTH the page and the new analysis tool.

You had to click on the Tab, and now you have to click on the Analyze button. That’s also one click
And if you need a shortcut, you can make one.

TBH I’m not sure what tab you are referring to here. Maybe I missed something in 11.

But where WLPro12 is concerned the loudness and analysis functions have been massively extended.

In the montage, under the Analyze tab, you now have a loudness function which when clicked upon opens a window with all the loudness and other data mapped out on a clip by clip basis, and the Visual Analysis function (as described by PG) which can display loudness curves on the waveform itself.

In the audio editor you have the Loudness function, Visual Analysis function and the Global Analysis function.

IMO these tools extend the possibilities way beyond what version 11 could achieve.

The Loudness tab was a little faster for me, I guess. But it only worked in the Audio Editor, which I pretty much never use.

To me, this is a huge improvement.

I am not here to argue with anyone.
I am just saying that it would not have hurt anybody to leave that tab available AND add all the awesome new loudness features.

You are of course entitled to your opinion and I don’t think anyone here is trying to cause an argument. This is rather a discussion.

I’ve just taken another look at Wavelab 11 and found the loudness tab you are referring to. I’d forgotten about that. Yes, I quite liked that loudness display too but you can of course still have something very similar in 12 by using the new Visual Analysis function.

I would say, it is “at least” very similar. In reality, when you study the new system, you can see it is far more useful and complete.

Agreed.

Just marking loud true-peaks before and after processing inside the montage is significant as far as I’m concerned.

And you can auto-play them too

I actually had a question about what the “Exclude below” field does. So, uhh…what does it do?

If “Exclude below” is set to, for example, -2 dB, then only true peaks equal to or above -2 dB are reported. This is useful for quickly determining whether there are any peaks beyond a custom reference.

Okay, that’s what I thought it did. The default value just kind of confused me.

You are right, I will change it to -2 dB.
