Wdmaud2 Cubase 15 Crash

Hi,

am experiencing regular freezes with CUYBASE 15. I managed to open myself the Dump File (attached a few of those) and it seems to be cause by wdmaud2.drv

Has anyone experienced this?

Cubase 15.0.21 64bit 2026.5.12 17.31.40.961-freezedump.dmp (1.2 MB)

Cubase 15.0.21 64bit 2026.5.12 18.07.29.642-freezedump.dmp (3.5 MB)

Cubase 15.0.21 64bit 2026.5.12 19.03.20.152-freezedump.dmp (3.7 MB)

There’s a pinned post about the MIDI updates with a pointer to the Discord server where you can ask questions, get solutions, etc.

Do you have any inMusic devices attached? Are you using any KORG drivers?

wdmaud2.drv is just the interface to the MIDI Service.

Hi Pete,

no I don;t. How do I access the post?

I am having all sort of issues with MIDI. Cubase often also hangs on MIDI when doing the initial scan, LoopMidi not working anymore and sometimes my MACKIE Devices (for controlling the mixer) do not load porperly and have to restart them.

Yes, loopMIDI is a long-known problem. The fix for that has been on the Discord server for a couple months. However, it started rolling out in Windows last month, so unless you urgently need it, I suggest you not install the workaround.

Pinned post in these forums:

Discord Server:
Windows MIDI / Audio (please read the pinned post in #start-here )

You shouldn’t be having any crashes if you don’t have KORG drivers or inMusic drivers installed. But I’ll work through it with you on the Discord server.

Ok, thanks a lot.

I have now joined the DISCORD group, what do I do?

as per the thread above I had the same crashes…

run the Steinberg MMCSS fix … set threads to maximum…

re boot, then Set cubase to use MIDI RT . THat solved all by crashes/freezes cazsue by Wdmaud.

M

thanks, I will try that!

The invite lands you right on this very specific post:

I tried to make it somewhat obvious that you should read it:

Hey thanks!

Yes, I went to that page. I meant exactly that - I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to message you directly or go through the Discord chat / forum first. I will go though it.

I have also finally got a reply from Steinberg (and another user) , let’s see if I manage to get this resolved! Will keep you posted..thanks in advance for the effort!

It looks like switching to Win RT and using the STEINBERG tool to max the threads soled the issue. I am still to properly check the DISCORD channel (and tackle the LoopMIDI issue)…will keep going and see what happens…

Just to report back on this…this was a solution that worked and also suggested by Steinberg (although it took them a month to reply, they take their time). The crashes seems to have stops. I will see if the system will stay stable (..of course until the next Windows update). Thanks everyone!
