Weird beaming in 12/8

This is bonkers beaming. Without a tie, it’s correct.

Put a tie in on the top A and it changes to nonsense.

One would have thought a high-end notation application which had reached version 6 would have got that sorted! I don’t understand why inserting the tie changes the beaming. :relieved_face:

[3+3+3+2+1]/8 looks like 3/8

I wonder if the differences stems from 3/8 being a simple triple meter vs. 12/8 being compound quadruple, meaning that the chunk in question falls within the beat in 12/8?
