Anyone know why? and more importantly how to I fix it? I can’t find a way to force Dorico to recalculate the measure widths. Seems like there is measure width information that was imported. I tried Reset Layout in Engrave mode, but no joy. Suggestions appreciated!
Hello mormus, in the View Menu you can activate Voice Colours. It might give you a hint, of the first upstem voice (your oboe music) starting later. You could click onto the first oboe notes and in the property panel see if there is a “Start Voice” property set. In that case try to deactivate it. Or if you input any note into your first bar and delete it again, it might sort itself out.
That was easy. I just followed my own instructions (further up).
Select All
Filter (select)>Notes and Chords
Filter (deselect)>Grace Notes
Filter (deselect)>Tuplets
Then have look at the Property Panel:
Wow! You are amazing. Clearly I need to learn about to use the filter functions. Can I assume since the fix for this began with a Select All that this will fix all the others layouts (parts)?
Secondly, is this something that can be avoided when exporting from finale or setting a preference in Dorico for importing?
Lastly, is there a way to have Dorico remove manual positioning from text items for an entire flow? (Then they would snap to their positions according to prefs set in one of the “options” dialogs. )
In the case of resetting positions, I think the item is reset in all Layouts.
For most(?) other properties, you need to make sure your Properties Scope is set to Global if you want changes to appear in all Layouts. And the reset would be induced by Reset Appearance rather than Reset Position.
Yes, because I did the procedure in the Full Score Layout.
Yes, this can be avoided by deactivating almost all options for .xml import in Dorico’s application preferences.
Still I do this routine with each imported .xml file… I will also routinely Filter for Slurs and Reset Appearance. Also Select All, then Edit>Notation>Fingering>Reset Fingering (to get rid of all misinterpreted Figured Bass numbers). Also, if present*, Select All, Filter all Lyrics and Delete (*in case Figured Bass numbers end up as Lyrics). I like to have a “clean” file with just the raw musical content. For me this “clearing up” is a fun bit.
