I’m trying to use the popover tool to show a cue from the Chorus grand staff - specifically Chorus (b) onto the RH staff of the piano part (see below). Specifically at the Piu Lento part. I’m not sure why but everything I try keeps showing blank whole rests as the cue even though there is clearly music there. What might be causing this problem?
By default the full score will not show cues, and if you have hidden signposts, you will see nothing. However, by default, they will show in the Part Layout.
So. To see the signposts in the score use view>signposts and show cue signposts.
To show the cue notes themselves, use layout options>players>cues and check the box .(Remember to apply the options to the correct layout on the RH side)
Hi @bmomusical, adding to the useful suggestions by @Janus, you can see see always the cues in Galley view (in Full score layout).
No no - sorry. Apologies, I was not clear. I can’t get it to show on the piano part. See image below, it’s just a whole measure rest. But only a few bars later, I call for the Sop/Alt RH staff and it shows up fine.
I think we’d need to see the file.

I see what you see, but don’t fully understand why.
For some reason Dorico finds two chorus(b) ‘instruments’ to cue. But fails with each.
If you duplicate the choir player and copy the notes across, the cue function works properly.
Perhaps better sleuths than I can work out what is going on?
Indeed. I really can’t pin down what’s causing the issue.
The underlying problem here is that the “Choir” instrument has somehow ended up with a divisi staff defined (you can’t see this in the project - I can see it with some of our internal diagnostics). Dorico doesn’t support this for grand staff instruments, and is getting confused about which staff the cue should refer to.
The solution is to create a new Choir reduction instrument from scratch, then to copy all the current material onto it.
If you have any ideas as to how the existing instrument ended up with a divisi staff then let me know, as it shouldn’t be possible for this to happen.
Is there no way to get rid of that divisi from the current chorus part? I only ask because I’ve spent a lot of time formatting the piano/vocal score. I’m worried I will have to fix it if I switch it out for a new one. All for one little cue in the solo piano part.
No, unfortunately, there’s no way to remove the stave once it’s been created, for a given instrument. If you need to preserve all the formatting work you’ve already done then I would opt for a workaround e.g. creating a new instrument to hold the cue material but excluding it from the Full Score.
