I’m needing a gliss. to only be connected to a single measure. When I go to assign a gliss. to a whole note that’s before a dotted rest, the gliss. line becomes horizontal and it attaches itself to the next available note. How do I note make the gliss. not behave like that? Sorry for the somewhat bad screenshot. I tried to showoff the entire gliss. Thanks for your help!
Glissando lines in Dorico need to be attached to notes at the beginning and end. If you select just one note (in this case, the G) and create a gliss, the software assumes it should go to the next note in that part, wherever it is. You can get around this by creating a ‘hidden’ endpoint using either a grace note or a hidden tuplet, and custom-scaling that final note to 1%.
However, in this case I think you’re after a rip or a fall, which looks similar to a ‘true’ glissando but works differently in a technical sense. Select the G, then go to the Ornaments section of the right-hand panel to find a variety of jazz ornaments that attach to a single note. And of course, they also have shortcuts in the Shift-O popover.
