Weird GUI behavior N14 with Range tool

I’ve been having strange issues with N14. (bear with me…)":

My setup consist of four displays: They are all connected to my Mac Studio (M1) via the USB-C ports. When I have a project playing in my timeline, hovering the Range tool over audio clips makes the play cursor stuttering. Also metering and plugin GUI’s are stuttering. On my Icon controller meters are stuttering as well.

When I select another tool (say: the select or cut tool), there is no problem!

I did extensive testing. Changing monitor cables, different monitor types, changing settings, disconnecting/disabling the Icon controller, monitor settings (refresh rate), etc. I simply cannot determine the exact cause of this issue.

The strange thing is that this only happens with the range tool! Also, it doesn’t happen always. Sometimes everything is fine for a long time and then suddenly it happens again. It was never a problem in N13.

Anybody has similar issues? Any idea what could cause this behavior?

Here is a video of the problem: https://youtu.be/TuAs0wVKPJE

The range tool has new functionality in N14 that looks at the waveform to detect ‘events’ : chunks of audio like words or syllables. That is probably a AI procedure that is performed on the gpu. This in turn could impact graphic processing of the GUI. Are you working on a Mac or PC? And did check the Activity Monitor GPU History while using the Range tool? Is it peaking or not?
If not, than it is weird behaviour that I have no way of explaining.

“The Range Selection tool now offers an automatic detection of segments within the audio such as words, drum hits, or phrases, allowing for quick and intuitive editing. See Creating Selection Ranges.”

Hmm, that makes sense. I haven’t checked the Activity monitor but I will give that a try. Is there any way to disable this detection functionality? I am working on a Mac Studio (M1) OS 15.7.1 (sequoia)
