Weird Staff Layout behaviour

Another weird issue I’m having:

A drum part starts with 2 multi bar rests with a system break.

When I delete the break, the 2nd bar stays on the 2nd staff and not moving up:

When I move it up manually in engrave mode - I get a huge space on the bottom of the page (there is no frame break that should keep the next staff from moving to page 1):

Can anyone please explain?

For the first issue, two things come to mind:

• have you manually adjusted the spacing of bars 13 and 14?
• under Layout Opions > Staves and Systems > Casting Off, is the fixed number of bars per system setting active?

The second issue is more straightforward. Go to Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Vertical Justification and set the first percentage to a value that’s lower than the percentage which is just off-screen here:

That’s the ‘vertical fullness’ value of the frame, the layout option controls when to justify (i.e. spread out) the staves vertically.

Regarding the first issue - “fixed number” is active, but de-activating it doesn’t change anything.

Regarding the 2nd issue - since there are more staves on page 2, I’d assume justification shouldn’t be an issue- I’d expect a couple of staves to move from page 2 to page 1, and that the justification issue will be relevant for the last page of the part, no? Or at least this would make more sense in my opinion .

How would I get Dorico to move a couple of systems from page 2, without resetting the whole layout?
