What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?

Recorded in one pass this morning… it could be better, there’s a couple mistakes. A cover of the great Michel Legrand tune – don’t tell Steinberg

(the e. piano is one of the Scarbee played thru Halion)

Nicely played. The mistakes didn’t leap out…
The constant panning drove me nuts though!  Might have been a little less distracting if it was tempo-sync’d ?

:sunglasses:

Thanks! About the panning – noted. One of my tweeters is out so it
didn’t seem all that annoying on my speakers. I will definitely fix it!

BTW… there’s no fixed tempo on this one – all rubato :sunglasses:

I made the panning a bit slower. When I bypass it, it sounds relatively less
open, so…

Argh! I’m NOT liking that last chord – why did I put the 6th in there

Not bad Doug, needs a bit of work but not that much. Don’t bother with the panning, doesn’t add anything IMO. Let’s do the nightclub pianist for this one :sunglasses:

Cheers
Phil

The tastiest playing, really uber-mellow and graceful.

Maybe it’s the sample, but my only issue with this project
is the amount of “fshhhhmmmmmmisssssss” (for want of a better word)
high-end energy around every note. I noticed thru both speakers and under cans.
Beyond amp dirtiness, just plain annoying.

Can you clean that up? I honestly don’t know what it is, but
it spoils my total enjoyment of a lovely piece of playing.

I might also say there is a degree of density to the overall sound
that I find fatiguing, but which I’m sure is just an EQ thing.

I’m not a keyboardist, so forgive my ignorance of the tech side.

But were I in a bar listening, I’d have to sit and stay.

man! that just melted out of my speakers. beautiful and warm. after each listen I felt the pressures of life disappear more and more.
loved it! really nice touch on the keys

Thank you!

Funny, I never even heard it until you pointed it out but yes there’s definitely
some sort of buzz in the sound. I’m not sure what it is but I’ll open the
project back up and take a closer look/listen – thanks

Agreed, but that IS the nature of that particular EP… do you think I need
to even it out?

Thank you… and thank you for how you consistently take the time to check out
and comment on everyone’s tunes :sunglasses:

Thank you, blue :sunglasses:

Hmmm… actually, I don’t hear the bzzz under cans, so what I was hearing
must have been my blown tweeter. I mean, yes, there’s that classic sort
ploppy attack portion of the Rhodes '73 there – this sample is spot-on as far as that goes, since I’ve owned several over the years (as well as a suitcase 88 which had
a different, harder sound)

In any case, I –

removed the panning
added a touch of verb
cut a bit @275Hz with a moderately wide Q so it’s not as dense
changed the voicing of the last chord

Yeah I’ve been really slack in this area over the past 6 months. :frowning: I need to be a better contributor.

Lovely! Would have been great to hear some stir fry along with a foot pedal hi-hat come in around 1:15, but I realize this is legato so having a drum “beat” would actually detract from the playing.

Have listened several times in recent days, and just now again.

Still blown away by the tasty playing Doug. Really quite dee-licious.

As I prefaced before, perhaps it’s the accuracy of the sample that
provides the “fsshhhmppphhhh”, but I still hear it. Does the Scarbee
include an amp, or just the EP itself? Juz wondrin’.

Anyway, were I in the bar listening, I’d be tipping ya big time.
Oh, and a beer or two on top.

If I recall the samples were recorded through the amp of choice for
Rhodes back in the day, Fender Twin

I call it a sort of “ploppy” attack portion

Hello Doug,

I’ve always enjoyed your songs, but ‘this’, Doug the piano player, I mean, Doug do me an album of this and send it over please, there is still time before xmas.

Take Care,
John

Hi Doug

To me this is absolutely beautiful.

Cheers.

Hi Doug,

I love this! It’s a beautiful song, one of Michel Legrand’s best (and he did write a lot of beautiful songs!) and it’s very well performed! :sunglasses:
The Scarbee sample is very good. As you probably know I’ve still got a real Rhodes and this is just the sound why I bought it and love to hear and play it.

Great job! Thanks for sharing.
