What determines the output level when exporting audio?

After having exported a file as audio I came to think of the need of normalizing. Didn’t find any such option so I tried raising the volume of the track, reverb and output level to 6.02 since they didn’t hit the ceiling even with that setting, but for some reason they were brought down again.

Do I need to use my DAW or similar application for this?

The audio processing is exactly same between playback and audio export. The only difference is, that the export is decoupled from the ASIO heartbeat, so it can run as fast as it can and therefore an export in general is faster done than a normal playback.
And Dorico has no normalize function, but you can put a limiter into the master channel in order to raise the overall level. (Isn’t there even by default already a Limiter in the master channel?)

Thanks, Ulf!

The volume of the Media Player in Windows wasn’t at 100, only 60, which explains the lower volume. It happens to me now and then but I often forget about it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Is this the master channel, to the right in play mode? Can’t find “Master channel” in the user manual. Where do I go to add a limiter or to check if it’s assigned already? Ah, if I make the mixer section larger I can see the inserts section.
