What features do you not use because they are not working well?

As I learn more about Cubase (and more specifically Nuendo) I have sometimes come across features that seem really interesting. I’ve even been excited. Then upon further research I realize the feature is deprecated, abandoned, or just doesn’t work well enough.

For example, the Device Panel seemed very interesting to me but I understand now that it’s seemingly deprecated. I’ve also read about some bugs with the VCA so I’ve stopped using that, even though I would like to.

I partly ask because I’m curious about some of the features that are important to users but are no longer a part of your workflow.

VCA for sure. So strange that Steinberg still don’t fix it… I think that it is so important…So I don’t use VCA anymore :frowning:

Hi,

The Device Panel is very, very old.

Please be aware, the VCA Faders in Cubase are quite different from the VCA Faders in Cubase.

Hi,

You can read it for example here:

Yes and that’s why I created the thread. As a new user I ask myself, why is this feature even there? Is it deprecated? Will it ever be updated? It creates a confusing user experience.

Good to know. Surprising though.

Hi,

Although the feature is old, it’s still very useful.

Okay. That’s good to know. I may have been misled by another user who I think suggested it doesn’t currently work as intended. Not sure about the nuances of it at the moment.

Audio Aligment.
It works rarely.
I just use Revoice, works really good.

Device Panels have been in Cubase since the SX days, and are the means by which external MIDI instruments are controlled from Cubase and integrated into the track inspector. It’s also possible to build custom panels for VST Instruments. While they haven’t seem much love in terms of modernising the UI, they are by no means deprecated and would be missed if removed.

What part of Device Panels is not working for you?

VCA’s. Workaround is not acceptable to me.

Mixconsole views. When I enable or add a track, all my views change. Not gonna sit there and reconfigure all my mix console views every 10-15 minutes; better to not use them at all.

Retrospective Record. Only works 60-70% of the time. Still use it, but hate it.

Import Tracks from Project. It’s faster to open a project de-activated and drag tracks in.

New tap tempo implementation. I sure would love a key command to insert a tempo at cursor position though,

I think a “Nuendo” is missing in your original, so the pensive face in David’s post.

“Listen” track via midi controller. In Cubase <12 you used to be able to assign the listen button for each track 1-8 etc. to your midi controller so you could dim every other track apart from the one(s) you are working on, but still have them present in the background. In Cubase 13 this functionality has gone, you can still click listen with your mouse but not using your midi controller any more (unless it’s the active track) as the ability to assign listen per track to midi has magically vanished.

It lets you do it for active track, but say I want to quickly in succession listen to a few dif tracks in the foreground one by one or multiple at the same time like I often did, I have to manually scroll active track to the one(s) I want each time, and it’s faster to just grab my mouse and click the listen button for them tracks, which I’m trying to avoid having to do in my workflow as much as possible.

The Drum Editor. Nothing wrong with the implementation of it, but just not worth the hassle of trying to set up drum mappings. And it’s nice to just learn how to use the Key Editor really well, and use that to edit the MIDI notes that trigger drum hits.

Hi,

How exactly did you assign them, please?

Hi thabks for reply.

If you check my main post about it here…

I have screen shots about how it used to display in the functions browser (the same as solo and mute still does). Listen is no longer assignable in the way solo is in the second screen shot, and you can only assign a shared listen for all visible channels, and not for the indavidual mixer chans via midi like you used to be able to in CB12.

That, is rather a disappointing situation.

Has the issue(s) been addressed in V13?

I think this bug with VCA from Cubase 9… And still here in Cubase 12 and 13…

What about VCA’s in N13?
