What files in the Preferences do I delete?

After unplugging my Focusrite Scarlett in the middle of a session, Cubase 14 won’t recognise my audio card anymore. Cubase 13, Ableton, Bitwig and my MacBook Pro system are all still ok, which leads me to think I just need to remove some files in the Cubase 14 preferences folder. I would prefer to not delete the whole folder, so which files do you suggest I start with?

Please try this, no need to delete anything:

  1. Studio/Studio Setup/Audiosystem > pick the Focusrite ASIO driver
  2. Studio/Audio Connections/Inputs and Outputs > set them accordingly to Focusrite

Thanks, but as stated in my question I need to remove files the preferences folder.
Anyone who knows what files are connected to the audio device?

Control Room Presets
C:/User/Name/AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/Cubase14_64/Presets
=> -ControlRoomPresets.pxml

Inputs/Outputs
C:/User/Name/AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/Cubase14_64/Presets:
=> RAMPresets.xml

RAM also includes
-Crossfade Presets
-Quantize Presets
-Track Control Presets
-Transport Panel Presets
-VST Connections Presets
-Tool Bar Presets
-Zoom Presets

EDIT: I have just realized you are on a Mac; have a look at this

Thank you! Yes, I’m on a Mac. I can’t find a description of a file matching what I’m looking for, so I guess I need to trash the whole folder anyway. I’ve already tried that (by just renaming the folder) and that solves the problem, but thought I should try to identify the exact file causing the problem. Anyway, thanks a lot!

You can copy files back from the renamed folder a batch at a time and restart Cubase until you find which one(s) are causing it. If you start with half it shouldn’t take too many restarts

You could not find the file RAMPresets.xml in your Mac’s user library folder? Even with this instruction on how to make it visible?

Please note: Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), the user’s Library folder is hidden! Here is how to access it: In the menu bar of Mac OS X click on “Go”. While the menu is folded out holding down the [ alt ] key (options) will show the “Library” entry.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I found that particular file, but removing it didn’t solve the problem. None of the other file names/descritions gives me a clear indication that they will do anything for my “situation”. Not sure I managed to express myself better this time either :laughing:

That would probably have been the best workaround. However, I have settled with deleing the whole folder, hoping nothing of importance is lost.

In this case I would save and import
-the latests user profile *srf

  • RAMPresets
  • ControlRoomPresets
    should they don’t mess up your setup.
    Profiles go a long way. Good luck!
