As much as I love Dorico and the level of knowledge and professionalism embedded in the program, I have been a lover of the excellent tutorial videos that have been accompanying the program from the very first release. Professional level of production, excellent content wrapped with clear and distinguishable graphics. Fun and concise presentation, and Anthony’s voice on top of that…! Pro level all the way through.
However, lately (last year or so?) something has happened with the graphical quality of the video material - in my opinion to the less professional. This is most notable in the “Discover dorico” thumbnails and “Tips tuesday” videos, but also in the obviously not in-house produced “Switching from Finale” videos:
(Please note that these are my personal observations and opinions based on experience in branding and graphical design.)
The Steinberg/Dorico graphical profile styles and colors (red, white, black/gray, Dorico-brown) used at the official site and older videos are (often - not always!) replaced with a strange mix of shades of blue and pale-yellow, weird combinations and variations of typefaces etc. (For a long time I actually missed the “Tips tuesday” shorts just because the cheap and unprofessional non-Dorico look of them - the weird and hard-to-read color combinations, four (!) different typefaces used with three (!) different kinds of shadow styles - graphical profile 101 big no-no.)
There can of course be a need of distinguishing different kinds of content using different styles, but this shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish using the elements already present in the graphical profile. So this is my humble suggestion: all producers of official Dorico videos should stick to the brand graphic profile - just as it used to be.
Please note that I don’t want to rant or bash anyone! On the contrary, thanks to all involved in developing this great peace of software! Looking forward to what’s coming next with excitement!
