Would it be compressing the current version then updating Cubase to the newer version. If that newer version is not working just delete the updated app and then extract the previous version? Will that work properly?
I upgraded to Cubase Pro 9.5.4 and every thing seems fine but I would still be curious what people on Mac do to roll back

You cannot delete just the update. You have to delete the whole application, install from the Full Installer and install the previous/wnated updated, without installing the latest update.
