what is the difference between ENTER and SHIFT+N? (MAC)

Hello
Are there any real differences between Shift+N or Enter…
to me, it seems they are both doing the same thing…
Both Keys start note entry and showing caret…

Shift-N basically always works. If there happens to be a time signature or key signature at the location you’re trying to invoke the caret, Enter will open the popover to edit the signature rather than invoking the caret.
