What is the "Program Selector" for?

If you go down in the woods today… you probably can’t see the “Program Selector”

With an instrument track highlighted, go to the cogwheel in the track list bottom right, open track control settings, highlight instrument and ensure the word “Program” is in the right pane. Click apply before you click out.

When I have this activated, (with a VST Instrument loaded) and click it in the Track List I get a mini media bay with nothing in it. I was hoping for more, at least something.

Hi, @ZeroZero

The content of the Program Selector depends of the vstpresets saved and findable by MediaBay for the given instrument. Here, I get all of them in the categorized list for the bundled VSTis with Cubase (Padshop, Halion…), so I would check if MediaBay is set correctly, if not the case.

But beside this, it won’t be usable, either if the involved VSTi doesn’t have presets saved in the vstpreset format, or if your instrument track is in a multiout configuration : it is completely misleading, in this case, as the last vstpreset selected appears for all the outputs of the instrument, requiring to have its UI opened to check what is actually going on.

At the end, I only use the Program Selector for MIDI tracks associated with my external instruments, after having carefully created a corresponding presets list for each of them in the MIDI Device Manager, many years ago…

OK I am using a lot of third party VSTs, so I think this will just be a time waster for me.
