All the best,
Helge
Very good news indeed!
Helge, does that mean that for Cubase 6 users before Jan 2012 this will be a paid update? Or did I get something wrong?
Can’t wait!
erm…sounds that an update price must be paid by those who activated Cubase 6 before January 1st, 2012…
(?)
I hope not !!! ![]()
this would be the first time than steinberg “charge” for the same cubase line (6 here)
Yup, does sound like a paid update… would this be a first for Steinberg?
Wonder if they have any mixer improvements?
And Cloud Computing… everything is going to the cloud, looks like it could be very handy for those who do that sort of thing.
That (now censored) vid that Audiocave posted looked rather cool! (someone a beta tester?)
Ooo… and FLAC support ![]()
and I think that for “those” there will be an additional discount for something.
Hi all,
The good news is: 6.5 brings a host of useful and great sounding features, and you’ll love it — just like we do. But yes, it won’t come for free - it simply can’t.
However, we are confident that this is a fair deal - consistent with our philosophy. In less than 24 hours you can make your own judgement - when we reveal the full picture ![]()
All the best,

I would imagine it will be like a two-tier update.
Obviously, bug fixes are going to be free.
Interested in:
though. According to Mr. Vogt, I’m extra lucky.
Now I begin the agonizing wait for the promised reveal. ![]()
I would like to think so!?
Hmm, I hope the bugfixes do come for free, not sure if I’m willing to pay for the few new plugs we’ve seen yet. That would depend entirely on their value and cost. With only Padshop retailing for €50 already, this might end up a very expensive bugfix ![]()
bugs? in C6? what are you talking about?? are you kiddin´?
there are no bugs in Cubase! (my gas station employee says)
The bugfixes most likely will be free (otherwise Steinberg’s not living up to their end of our paid for licenses).
Remember though, Steinberg’s VST shop isn’t only limited to Cubase users. Padshop is $50 for everyone. I suspect (and hope) for the update the paid for additions (Padshop, etc) will be steeply discounted (a reward for investing in Cubase 6).
Still hoping it’s free for people who activated after Jan 1st.
I don´t want Padshop or other Plugins, so I get the 6.5 Update for free?
The 6.5 hasn´t much new features, so no big step to Cubase 7.
Hoping for Cubase 7 Update with RND portico and Yamaha Vintage Plugins in the future.
For that update I´am willing to pay 499Dollar.
My speculation is that, since bugfixes are a part of the service provided by our paid for licenses, they will be free.
499 dollars for not only a major program update but those plugins?
If Steinberg did that I’d question their business sense (and their sanity
).
Those plugins would gross them $1700 (CAD) if not discounted. Add to that a major program update?
I don’t think they be willing to take that steep of a loss.
really? where did you get this info?

I think it’s better to wait until the update is revealed before we jump into conclusions.
Being a long time Cubase user myself, this is the first time I witness an x.5 update to be a paid one, and although this seems a bit frustrating at first glance, it can also be a really good thing! I mean, there might be features in this update that we have been wanting for a long time and we don’t have to wait for Cubase 7 to get them. If this is the case I am more than willing to pay for an update than waiting for the new version.
So, even though it is stated that it will be a paid update I am excited to see what it brings ![]()
I agree. I know it’s fashionable for some people bitch no matter what but we just might be pleasantly surprised.
Well said…
J.L.
I believe that the bugfixes can be said, with a high degree of certainty, will be free.
It’s stated on Steinberg license cards that we are entitled with the license to program updates.
However, this update is both a product update and content packs, so yeah…
