What sounds are included in Dorico SE? Also, is the Low Latency driver included?

Hello wonderful people!

A) It says 1500 sounds, 2 GB library. But what sounds are those? Surely we’re not talking about HSO or Iconica Sketch, but rather a “basic” Halion library, sort of General MIDI+, to put it this way, is that right?

I can’t verify myself because between Cubase, Dorico and Absolute, I’m not sure that I would understand what’s what even if I downloaded SE to see for myself.

B) About the Low Latency driver. Is it in there?

Thank you in advance!

Reasons for asking

I’m trying to steer a complete beginner friend of mine towards Dorico. She is currently using Musescore, but MIDI (recording) over there is shockingly bare bones, so why not do the right thing and switch to Dorico at an early time? Her needs are nothing spectacular, just typing in some percussion patterns, and maybe doing some interval training using a piano sound, but since she is a percussionist, I think it would be more proper if there wasn’t any excess latency while she is trying to learn the ropes of this whole “computer assisted musical self-improvement”.

Yes, it’s the basic HALion GM sounds: not HSO, nor Sketch.

I would have thought that the audio driver is included – that was included to make things better for Windows users, so there would be little point in withholding it.

The comparison page is here. It doesn’t say anything about the driver. Again, I’d assume that if only Pro had the driver, they would mention it as a ‘feature’.

Good thinking.

Thank you very much for the confirmation!

Hi @ggmanestraki , I also don’t know if the driver is contained in the Dorico SE installer or not, but if it is not, you can still download it separately from here

You can use any ASIO driver to suit your hardware, eg. some soundcards have their own. I continue to use FlexASIO. Others I know use ASIO4all

Thank you very much! It’s good to know that Steinberg’s driver is avalaible for download, I’d all but forgotten.

@Janus
I know, I know, but keep in mind that we are talking about an extremely green person here, so I try to not confuse her with more stuff than is absolutely needed, for the time being. But thank you for your interest, your time and your sound advice.
