What Would Make Groove Agent Look Like This?

What would make Groove Agent look like this?

You’ve loaded a kit but not any style?

I’ve experimented that, but it didn’t change anything. Groove Agent was working on this project and I had a complete track. Now this…

I tried uninstalling Groove Agent and all the related extensions in the Library Manager under the Groove Agent tab. Then, reinstalled everything. Still the same blank boxes.

Hi Syd_Phillips,

Please post a screenshot of your Steinberg Library Manager with unfolded details of ā€œThe Kitā€.

Cheers,
Jan

The ā€œLoad Kit with Patterns or Stylesā€ option is turned off. See Screenshot below and compare:

… and there seems to be an GUI update bug, it’s necessary to click on ā€œKitā€ and again on ā€œPlayerā€ to display the Kit pad names in the Pattern Player.

Hi Jan, Thanks for taking a look at it, here’s the screenshot. This is happening with all the kits, but I assume that what fixes one will fix the others. I may have made things worse by trying to fix it by uninstalling/reinstalling Groove Agent and all the extensions.

Hi Gerrit, No combination of working with the buttons that you are showing is changing anything. I think there is something off about my environment. Nearly everything I install takes a fight to make make work. I’ve tried to stay with all the defaults when installing anything to avoid issues like this.

@Syd_Phillips

Does it mean, you activated ā€œLoad Kit with Patternā€, like Gerrit said, reloaded the preset, but Groove Agent still doesn’t show up anything under ā€œPlayerā€?

Cheers,
Jan

Yes, I activated ā€œLoad Kit with Pattern.ā€ The player seems only partially activated and it produces no sound. It was working before I bought ā€œNashvilleā€ and tried to troubleshoot why it would present in Library Manager without errors, but not present in Groove Agent. I think I made it worse in my troubleshooting process.

I may have a new clue. When I open Dorico 6, it displayed the message below on start-up. In checking the download manager it shows Groove Agent SE Installed under Dorico 6 and Cubase 15.

Cubase doesn’t present this message at all. I can run Groove Agent SE stand-alone, but it has the same problems.

@Syd_Phillips Regarding the Dorico issue with Groove Agent SE5 - Content, please get in contact with our support department. Unfortunately, I am not sure what is going on here.

Regarding the pattern problem with GA 6, please check if the same thing happens in the stand-alone version.

Thanks, I’ve been having problems like this for about 4 weeks and submitted tickets from the onset. Each time I buys something and it doesn’t work, I submit a ticket. I’m still waiting to hear something. I’m not finding anything in Spam.

@Syd_Phillips If you don’t receive an answer from the support department, I recommend calling them during the hotline hours. They will be happy to assist you. Unfortunately, I am the wrong guy to answer Dorico questions, I am sorry.

But I am happy to help you with the Groove Agent issue. Does it also happen in the stand-alone version?

Yes, it happens in stand-alone Groove Agent SE and Groove Agent 6 as well.

My intent in mentioning Dorico is to refernce to a fundamental Groove Agent symptom – with the assumption that Groove Agent SE is a functional requirement for Cubase and Dorico. Also, the message is explicit about expecting version 5, which is also odd.

My theory is that there something fundamentally wrong with Groove Agent SE** and that is causing trouble for All things that use it; Groove Agent 6, Cubase, Dorico etc…

@Syd_Phillips I don’t think the missing GASE 5 Content is causing the issue with not loading patterns. Just to verify, would you mind doing a short screen recording showing the steps you do and post it here?

Cheers,
Jan

Will do, I’m tied up for a bit but will be posting it tomorrow, I hope.

I suggest you get in touch with @Ulf from the Dorico team, he knows probably what to do here.

Hi Jan, Here’s a link to a video where a demo what I’m experiencing in Groove Agent. In case it’s helpful, I also bring up where I see files being installed, Library Manager etc…

Thanks for your help,
Syd

Hi @Syd_Phillips , watching your video I get the impression that file access rights is your problem. Though you have lots of GrooveAgent contents installed, it seems that as a normal user you don’t have read access to it.
Would you please open a Terminal window (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and into there copy and paste the command

find /Library/Application\ Support/Steinberg/Content -ls > ~/Desktop/SMTGContents.txt

and then press the return/enter key. You then find the file SMTGContents.txt on your Desktop. Please zip that text file up and attach to a reply here.

P.S.: Take a close look at the command and make sure that you really copy the whole line. The last characters shall be ā€˜txt’.

@Syd_Phillips Somehow, I missed the fact, that Groove Agent isn’t showing the content any more. Like Ulf said, that could be caused by a permission issue. Please also do the following:

Please recreate the preferences of the MediaBay. To do this, click on ā€œGoā€ in the Finder menu. Press the ā€œOptionā€ key on your keyboard while the menu is open. This adds the ā€œLibraryā€ entry, which can now be selected. In the Library, open the ā€œPreferencesā€ folder.

Now rename the folders ā€œSteinberg MediaBay Serverā€ and ā€œSteinberg MediaLibā€ under ā€œ/Users//Library/Preferences/ā€ as follows:

ā€œx_Steinberg MediaLibā€

ā€œx_Steinberg MediaBay Serverā€

Upon the next program start, these folders will be recreated, which often resolves the issue.

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks Ulf, I’ve attached the zip file. In my video I show where I’ve given full disk access to all the apps, but I’ve read where Mac OS can be buggy in that regard.
